Daycare Shenanigans
Last week I left work a bit early and went to pick up the kiddo from daycare. There haven't been any more biting incidents, in case you were wondering. You would have read something in the news about a crazy redheaded mother beating the snot out of a daycare director if there was. Just kidding, I would never.....well maybe. Anyways. Normally when I pick him up they're already in the gym running around like little heathens so it was a nice surprise to catch them in the classroom. I like to just watch for a few minutes, if possible, just to see how he actually behaves around eleven other kids. And also to check and see if the teachers were keeping the biter away from my LM. So I walked in during snack and they were all sitting around their little tables with goldfish in hands. I wasn't there for more than five seconds when Sully poured his entire cup of water on the head of the little girl next to him. When she got up crying, he calmly reached over and took her snack. You read that right. He wanted to get her out of the way so he could take her freaking snack. I guess to a two year old, this makes perfect sense.
The teacher handled it like I would at home so that was nice to see. She got down to his eye level and told him it wasn't nice to dump his water on his friend, it made her sad. She said we drink our water, we don't spill it. She made him go give the girl a hug, tell her he was sorry, then she handed him a paper towel so he could clean up the little bit of water on the floor. He didn't seem the least bit remorseful but I guess we'll work on that. For situations like this, I definitely think the teacher handled things well but I have a suspicion that the biting was handled the same way, which is annoying. Yes, they're little and still learning but they also have to learn some things are more serious than others and carry more consequences. In the meantime, I'm a little worried about the reasoning skills of my two year old. He might end up being some sort of evil genius at the age of six. Sigh....just like his father.

I always think that about Ellen. When she gives me that sideways glance and does something I have told her not to do a million times. Child, I know you know better!
